Coalinga College has been named a 2022 Champion for Excelling in Equitable Course Placement in Campus-wide English Enrollment, Latinx English Enrollment, and Latinx Math Throughout by the Campaign for College Opportunity (CCO).
“We appreciate the Campaign for College Opportunity’s recognition of Coalinga College and our dedication and commitment to our students,” said Dr. Carla Tweed, WHCC President. “Providing students direct access to transfer-level English and Math course work is just one of many ways we are removing barriers for our students.”
According to CCO, WHCC has successfully supported 100% of students and 100% of Latinx students to enroll directly into transfer-level English coursework and supported at least 60% of Latinx students who enrolled in a transfer-level Math course to complete it within one year of their initial enrollment successfully.
Since the passage of AB 705 (Irwin) in 2017, California Community Colleges have drastically increased access to credit-bearing courses across all racial and ethnic groups, doubling the number of students who complete transfer-level Math and English courses.
WHCC is one of the many community colleges being recognized for their work in eliminating remedial education courses at their institutions and ensuring students enroll and succeed in college-level courses.
Coalinga College will be recognized at the Campaign for College Opportunity’s inaugural award installation ceremony, Excellence in Placement: Honoring Community Colleges Excelling in Equitable Course Placement for Students, on Thursday, May 12, 2022.
