Falling Behind? Five Steps to Get Back on Track

Falling behind in a class can happen quickly. Maybe you missed a few assignments, did not understand a topic, or have been struggling to keep up. The important thing is figuring out what you can do next.

1. See What You Missed

Look through your class materials and make a list of missing assignments, upcoming tests, and anything else you need to complete. Seeing everything in one place can make it easier to decide where to begin.

2. Start With One Thing

You do not need to finish everything in one day. Choose one assignment or task and work on that first. Once it is done, move on to the next one.

3. Talk to Your Professor

If you are unsure about an assignment or have missed several classes, reach out to your professor. They can help you understand what you missed and what you should focus on.

4. Use Tutoring

If the reason you are behind is that you are having trouble understanding the material, tutoring can help. A tutor can give you extra practice, explain difficult topics, and help you prepare for exams.

5. Make a Plan

Once you know what needs to be done, set aside time each week for assignments and studying. Having specific times to work can make it easier to stay caught up.

Falling behind does not mean you have to give up. Start with one assignment, use the support available to you, and keep moving forward.
