Apps for Ag, the unique competitive hackathon connecting hackers and growers to create open-source apps to solve real problems in agriculture, will take place April 17-19. The hackathon will be hosted in San Joaquin Valley by the "Farm of The Future" program at Coalinga College located at 518 W. Gale Avenue in Coalinga, California.

"The organization committee for the hackathon embodies the type of public-private
partnership that California needs to rise to the challenge to produce more food with
increasingly scarce resources" underlined USDA's Robert Tse who is one of the organizers
with Clint Cowden. Patrick Dosier, agronomist from TransValley AgTech; Bob Gore, policy
expert from The Gualco Group; Olivier Jerphagnon, serial entrepreneur from PowWow
Energy; and Karina Solomonik, agricultural economist studying at Fordham University
complete the committee.
The first Apps for Ag hackathon is sponsored by California Community Colleges, USDA,
Agrian, gThrive, California Coast Crop Consulting, California Ag Solutions, and TerraVerde
Renewable Partners. At the end of the two-day event, teams will showcase their ingenuity
in front of a judging panel composed of experienced developers, farmers, and investors.
"Hackathons are a great way to spur innovation in industry verticals where technology
has not been fully adopted", said Rob Trice, one of the judges and the founder of
the Mixing Bowl and Better Food Ventures.
