Public Health

The Associate in Science in Public Health for Transfer prepares students to move into a curriculum at a four-year institution leading to a baccalaureate degree. Please consult a counselor regarding specific course requirements for your transfer institution. Completing the AS-T degree also provides a seamless transfer to the California State University (CSU) system, although not to a particular campus or major. Students pursuing the AST in Public Health may be interested in a baccalaureate degree in Health Science with a variety of options such as Health Education, Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Public Health Promotion, Kinesiology, or Collaborative Health and Human Services. Upon completing the AS-T in Public Health degree, students will be able to articulate knowledge of the scientific foundations of Public Health and distinguish between public health and personal health. This major prepares students for careers in a variety of health professions at local, state, and federal health agencies. In addition, students may be interested in research, education, emergency response preparedness, health insurance, and many other fields.

  1. Students will communicate strategies or tactics to improve health inequalities.

  3. Students will communicate individual behaviors that influence health and wellness.
  4. Students will apply scientific knowledge and evidence-based research findings to community and individual health issues.

Students must meet the following requirements to qualify for an Associates for Transfer Degree (ADT):

  • Complete 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University (CSU).
  • A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
  • Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
  • Minimum grade of “C” for each course in the major.
  • Completion of CalGETC Requirements with a minimum grade of "C".
