Dr. Carla Tweed, president of Coalinga College, joined the national celebration of Read Across America Week by sharing the joy of reading with children at the Firebaugh Child Development Center.
Dr. Tweed visited the center on March 5 to engage with young learners and read aloud from beloved children's books. The event aimed to inspire a love of reading and promote literacy, aligning with the national initiative to encourage reading every day.
"Read Across America Week is a wonderful opportunity to emphasize the importance of reading and its impact on a child's development," Tweed said. "It was a privilege to spend time with the bright and enthusiastic children at the Firebaugh Child Development Center."
The children actively participated in the storytelling session, expressing excitement for the books. The event highlighted Coalinga College's strong connection with the community and commitment to supporting early childhood education.
"It's inspiring to see the joy books bring to children," said Dean Bethany Matos of Coalinga College Firebaugh Center. "Encouraging literacy at an early age lays the foundation for lifelong learning, and we are proud to be part of that journey."
Read Across America, an initiative by the National Education Association, is an annual event held in March to motivate children to read, celebrate diversity in books, and foster a lifelong love of reading. Coalinga College's participation underscores its dedication to literacy and community engagement.
