Student Data Protection

West Hills Community College District is committed to protecting student privacy. The district will not release personally identifiable student information, including information related to immigration status, without a judicial warrant, subpoena, or court order, unless the student provides written consent or disclosure is otherwise required by law.

Students can be assured that any information submitted on admissions or financial aid applications is protected under federal and state law and will not be used in a way that places them or their families at risk. The district does not create or maintain lists of students based on immigration or citizenship status, and such information is not considered in admissions decisions.

Certain directory information, such as name, dates of attendance, major field of study, and similar non‑sensitive details, may be released unless a student chooses to opt out. Students may request that the College restrict access to their directory information by contacting the Admissions & Records/Registrar’s Office.

For more detailed information about student privacy rights and the district’s procedures, students may review Administrative Procedure 5040 – Student Records, Directory Information, and Privacy (PDF).
